This debut EP from the Bristol alt-grunge four-piece is as you might expect if you have caught their single releases: different, sludgey, changeable and organically ripe as melons - though probably small ones as the four tracks come in under 15 minutes in total.
Lead cut ‘Be My Friend’ - the longest track - opens the record, sliding along at first; it’s calming verses hiding an innate darkness brewing just under the surface, with guitarist Ellie Godwin's hypnotic vocals driving the track, before the song explodes out midway with bass and drums hitting up the groove.
The math rock styled 2.49 minutes of ‘America’ follow, before the slow and enticing ‘Behaviour’ errs more towards their psychedelic side, with their trademark build, fade, build chord changes, and, naturally Godwin holds court with her sharp, controlled vocal acrobatics. It is perhaps one of the standouts on this EP.
Closer ‘She Goes Her Own Way’ showcases just how effective Godwin's voice is, hovering on the borders of explosion and quietude, while 60s-esque guitars and instrumental passages work around it.
