Glasgow foursome LUCIA share single and video for ‘Cheap Talk'

Words: Richard Cobb

Glasgow jangly indie/unhinged pop foursome LUCIA have unwrapped a welcome early Christmas present in the form of new single and accompanying video ‘Cheap Talk'.

The track, produced by Jim Abbiss of Arctic Monkeys and Adele fame, was the namesake of the band’s second EP which rose to the surface last month. The wonderfully twisted video was co-directed by frontwoman Lucia Fairfull and Sedona May, with Christopher Gomes on filming duties.

If you’ve been lucky enough to sidestep this week’s predictable major label premature confetti cannon that is the Critics Choice of 2019 list, LUCIA are an ideal organic, less stomach churning alternative to listen out for next year.

The recent Rip It Up exhibition in Edinburgh was a celebration of Scottish music and showcased the many weird and wonderful styles and sounds of Scotland(and the Proclaimers..) from the last 50 years. If LUCIA are able to maintain this level of songwriting and raw attitude, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say if they were to revisit this exhibition in around 10 years, you could find them filed alongside such big-hitters like Garbage, The Rezillos and Franz Ferdinand.
