Liverpool-based 'grungy fuzz pop' four-piece Good Problems dropped their debut single 'Curio' back in March, with its follow up, 'Heavy Head', released last month.
Who are you?
Jen: We are Good Problems!
Nat: We’re half of Good Problems, can you not count? The better looking half.. Obviously.
Jen: I am the lead singer, Nat us in guitar. The other two are George on bass and guitar, then we’ve got Liam on drums. So yah, that’s us.
Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.
Nat: I’m from the wonderful land of de-Preston, I’ve been on a horrific perpetual merry-go-round of calamity and doubt and it has now led me to be sitting here with Jen.... sipping a martini?
Jen: I’d say that we’re both tortured souls who found each other, and that goes for the rest of the band too. I’m from Canada, I jumped ship and came here and met these boys and we all just let the good times roll making music together here in Liverpool.
Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.
Nat: Our musical style got called 'mongrel rock' once, which we say is a mix of Canadian grunge and British indie. I’d say our influences are the Pixies, Oasis and Cage the Elephant. We have a pretty cynical witty way of looking at the world.
Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.
Nat: George, the meat head, comes ups with a phat riff, I indie it up and make it unreal and then Jen puts some amazing vocal over the top while Liam bangs stuff in the corner...
Tell us a little about your new single.
Jen: Our new single came out November 9, it’s called 'Heavy Head', and it’s about waking up and still feeling heavy and messed up from the night before, feeling regretful... Twisted.
Nat: And its an absolute tune with an amazing solo that is played by yours truly, which is pretty UNREAL hahaha. It’s pretty Oasis-sy, check it out, it’s got a really cool diy video as well.
Jen: That is one groovy solo.
Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?
Jen: Yah, man, we’ve been on a bit of a recording and writing hiatus but you can catch us at Sound Basement on January 17th supporting Raised By Wolves, and on January 20th at the same venue supporting Redwood, with Honeyspider and A Burial at Sea (who are some friends of ours and they’re sick!).
How's the immediate future looking, plans-wise?
Nat: The start of 2019 is looking very exciting for us, we’ve got some sick tunes that we’ve done with James Grant coming out and proper looking forward to getting them out because they are SICK.
Jen: Yeah; we’re pretty stoked to get those out in the new year. We’ll be playing around here and there so we’ll be definitely making some gig announcements.
