Shura marks her return with 'BKLYNLDN'
Words: Leah Raymond
It's been a quiet period for London songstress Shura. Apart from her videogame mix at the end of 2017, her last work was three years ago with debut album, 'Nothing's Real'.
Now, however, she is back with a brand new track, the fresh and seductive 'BKLYNLDN'.
Out now via Secretly Canadian, the track arrives as the first taste of her second album, expected later this year.
'BKLYNLDN' comes with a video, directed by Woman's Hour vocalist Fiona Jane Burgess.
"With ‘BKLYNLDN’ I wanted to explore having both a sonic & lyrical evolution," she says. "It’s about desire - playing with the idea of it being all consuming and at times overwhelming. It starts with the immediacy of physical desire - 'this isn't love' and yet as the song unfolds that sentiment begins to unravel; I am clearly in love and instead of my girlfriend coming to London, I end up moving to Brooklyn. I wanted to capture that reversal and for me that section feels like my summer, skipping through Brooklyn, holding hands with my girlfriend and singing out loud without caring about how stupid you look."
Shura has also announced a headline show at London's Roundhouse on November 14. Tickets go on pre-sale tomorrow (March 12), and on general sale at 10am on March 14.
