The Great Escape 2019 :: Preview Must Sees Part 2

In our series of Great Escape festival previews, Little Indie's reporting team cast an eye and ear over what will be happening on the stages this week in Brighton, and who they think are worth catching.

Following Part 1 here, we now conclude with the second half.

Linn Branson

Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard
(Thurs 1.30pm Latest Bar, Thurs 7pm Volks)

Fresh from Live At Leeds, the Buzzards come with added buzz appeal - and former Tibet members Tom Rees and Ethan Hurst. Their songs explore concepts of time, money, politics and vanity - and their live set comes with praise.

Walt Disco
(Thurs 2.30pm One Church, Thurs 9.15pm Horatios)

Glasgow’s indie art pop five-piece Walt Disco have hit the ground running this year. Quirky appeal, enigmatic frontman. Not to be missed.

CHAI
(Thurs 9.30pm The Dive Bar, Fri 3.15pm Hideout)

The cute and quirky Japanese four-piece stole the show in Texas at SXSW, and with their second album ‘PUNK’  recently released, expect fun and inclusiveness.

Working Men's Club
(Fri 5.30pm Hideout, Fri 7.15pm Pagannini Ballroom)

Post-punk trio from West Yorkshire, unveiled their debut single 'Bad Blood' in February. Comprised of 17-year-old singer and guitarist, Syd Minsky-Sargeant, guitarist/vocalist Giulia Bonometti, and drummer Jake Bogacki, their sound of angular guitars, electronic drums and cracking bassline has just seen them signed to Heavenly Recordings.

Cable Ties
(Thurs 12.30am The Richmond, 12:30am, Fri 7pm Volks, 7pm, Sat 1.05pm The Beach, 1.05pm, Sat 12.30am East Street Tap)

The Melbourne trio offer abrasive, politically-minded jams, wrapped up with a rock 'n' roll swagger and punk sneer.

Black Midi
(Sat 2.30pm Komedia Studio, Sat 9.15pm The Deep End)

The London collective offer intense, frenzied percussion, bright, vivacious guitar, and fitful vocals that are "danceable, melodic" with "good rhythms."

Izzy Butler

Cocaine Piss
(Thurs 7.30pm The Haunt)

Just the name is probably enough to want to see what this Belgian four-piece can do. They've just released their 12-track second album of gender-bending noise punk, 'Passionate and Tragic', so won't be short on songs.

Tropical Fuck Storm
(Fri 10.15pm Coalition, Sat 2.25pm The Deep End)

Another band whose name alone makes you want to know more about this Aussie sludge-punk four-piece.

FUR
(Fri 11.15pm Horatios)

Alt-indie melodies and dreamy pop from local Brighton band who released their self-titled EP a few months ago.

Friendly Fires
(Fri 10.15pm The Deep End)

A return for the indie Hertfordshire stalwarts ahead of their third album, due later this year.

Viagra Boys
(Fri 9.15pm The Haunt)

Swedish punk sextet who released their debut album 'Street Worms' last year. Sure to get it up very nicely.

HÆLOS
(Fri 9.15pm The Deep End)

London atmospheric electronic four-piece about to release their second album, 'Any Random Kindness'.

Amelia Callister

Looking down the Alternative Escape for inspiration, I have come up with these.

Sad Boys Club
(Thurs 6.10pm The Richmond)
Surprised this glam indie bunch from North London aren't on the main bill. First introduced by Little Indie, their pop synth sound has found favour all over.

Talkboy
(Thurs 3pm Door 77)

The Leeds indie sextet reaffirm their budding status as one of Yorkshire’s most exciting indie prospects ahead of their debut EP release this summer.

L I P S
(Thurs 10.40pm The Hub)

Falmouth, Cornwall indie jangle-poppers with a woozy shoegaze sound.

SPINN
(Thurs 9.30pm The Richmond)

Prolific Liverpudlian indie pop band with plenty of jangle and Scouse humour.

Lauran Hibberd
(Thurs 8.50pm The Richmond, Sat 2.30pm Jubilee Square)

Isle of Wight songstress Lauran Hibberd brings grunge-pop melodies and tongue-in-cheek lyrical panache.
