Best new tracks Down Under #29

With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.

NYXEN - INSOMNIA

Sydney-based, Tokyo-born songstress Chelsea Lester - whom we featured here last summer with 'Chains' - captures a way with layering vocals over electro-pop beats, which on this track she says she tried in the writing of to "encapsulate the various emotions/states of 'Insomnia' through the instrumentation. I always try and express what I'm feeling in the backdrop of the song, with the thought that if there were no lyrics, would people still relate to the emotion I'm portraying?"

PLANET  - NEVER NEW

Credit: Chris Polak

Now signed to Dew Process, the Sydney quartet dropped this new single last week - their first new music since last year's debut EP, 'Waking Eight'. A Nineties groove resonates with distorted guitars, a big chorus, and Matty Took singing “Love won’t change a thing” over a sonic wall of synths.

THE CHATS - IDENTITY THEFT

Queensland's 'pub punk' teen trio - Josh Price, Eamon Sandwith, Matt Boggis - drop this new single via their own Bargain Bin Records on September 13. Brimming with youthful energy, its punk punch is mosh pit territory. Catch live in UK/IR next month when they play Reading/Leeds along with a few other dates, before returning for a December tour.
