With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
GAUCI - HEARTBEAT
Sydney-based GAUCI follow 'To Save A Moment', with new single 'Heartbeat'. Both tracks precede their self-titled debut EP out October 16. Pristine production brings out their shining electro-pop sound, with added pop vocals. "'Heartbeat' is a little bit of a departure from our usual sound which we’re really excited about," say the trio. "We’re all obsessed with the amount of well written and dynamic pop music at the moment and I think that comes across. It’s about that moment of being in a busy club and whispering into someone’s ear asking them to leave with you."
SKŸE - LOVE LIKE THAT
The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter releases his first single of 2020, produced by Hauskey. The unique, androgynous-sounding voice delivers an emotive presence on this debut, augmented by synths and keys. "'Love Like That' is about unrequited love. It’s about a relationship that never had the opportunity to blossom because of shame and insecurities. It reflects my own personal experiences with love but I think it also has a universal message too. I wrote it with Bri Clark and Andy Hopkins (Hauskey) in December last year. It was a song I needed to address in that time to say what I was going through and start the letting go process. Although I’m not totally in that space now, it allows me to tap into it every time I sing it. I hope it makes people feel heard."
CRY CLUB - NINE OF SWORDS

The Melbourne queer 'bubblegum punk' duo Heather and Jono head up to their Gab Strum-produced debut album 'God I'm Such A Mess', out November 13, with this new pop-punk single. Lyrically focused on overcoming anxieties, they build on grungy guitar layers and Heather's strong voice to create an impact. "'Nine of Swords' is about overcoming your personal anxieties and moving past the unhealthy coping mechanisms you’ve created," they say. "Astrology, tarot cards and crystals aren’t going to replace working on bettering yourself, you’ll just continue to draw the Nine of Swords."
POLARIZE - HOUSEBOUND
A psych swirl from the Melbourne indie rockers on this new melodic single out September 10. ‘Housebound’ came out of their lockdown home sessions. "Seeing as we can’t all get together, we recorded all our parts separately then sent them off to the infamous Simon Dodd for mixing," says the band's Rudie Dodd.
GLASSEYE PARLOUR - RIOT
Adelaide four-piece Glasseye Parlour's new single 'Riot' is, well, just that. Loud, ear-grabbing, visceral 90s grunge riffs complementing a brutal chorus with a raw intensity.
CROOKED COLOURS - LOVE LANGUAGE

Perth indie-dance trio Crooked Colours return with new single ‘Love Language’. Phil Slabber’s soulful vocal tones dominate over the gambolling electronic beats, rich bass groove and lush keys. “This song is about the different ways in which we communicate our love for each other,“ says Slabber. “How special it is to find someone that speaks the same love language as you. It’s a celebration of the uniqueness of relationships."
