Callum Pitt addresses the passing of time and a loved one on 'Ghost'

Words: Ali Mack

Released last Friday through Humble Angel Records, Newcastle singer-songwriter Callum Pitt's 'Ghost' is both nostalgic and melancholy as it documents a long journey of seeing a loved one deteriorating from cancer from start to finish.

Like last year's 'Slow My Heart Rate Down', and debut EP 'Poisoned Reveries' - a collection of four songs discussing mental health - Pitt is never afraid to address difficult issues through his personal lyrics, and folk-influenced style adorned with a falsetto vocal.

With plucked guitar, softly played instrumentation, the lyrics focus on the ‘normal’, says Pitt, "and the fact that happy memories could thankfully still be made despite this black cloud waiting in the distance much of the time."

"Nothing looked like it was different, you were smiling, it was bright / So much so I could imagine it was June and you were alright / While I wanted to believe it, sat up knowing on the night"
