A Cause In Distress return for second outing with 'Modern Commerce'

Words: Steve Willcox

We first heard Southend trio A Cause In Distress back last summer with their debut 'Lumbering'. With a new year and new beginnings, comes the second single release, 'Modern Commerce'.

Out today (January 22) through Cool Thing Records, and produced by long-term Cool Thing collaborator Rees Broomfield (Beckie Margaret, Indian Queens), with its haunting reverberating synth loop running throughout, this atmospheric track solidifies the subversive nature of the band.

Vocalist Liam Watkins' foreboding voice keeps the heady guitar swings at bay, while Dominic Robinson’s percussion beats weave their magic across the portrayed wasteland of personal torment, therapy and acceptance, as a punchy guitar riff gives a sense of urgency as though the clocks ticking to explode in the brain of the patient on its therapy couch.
