Japanese Wallpaper is just 'Fooling Around' on new single

Words: Ellie Ward

Japanese Wallpaper - aka Gab Strum - returns today (October 12) with 'Fooling Around', out via Nettwerk Records.

First highlighted by Little Indie back in 2014 as a One To Watch, this marks the Melbourne artist's first release in two and a half years, apart from his collaboration with Australian rapper Allday on his 'Speeding' album of 2017.

"It's a song about figuring out how to accept your feelings and stand up for yourself. It has nothing to do with actually 'fooling around'. It’s about self belief and not ignoring your emotions," he says of the textured electronica layered track.

The first taste of his forthcoming album, 'Fooling Around' is an example of his shift sonically and mentally - the song is a call to arms to anyone who has ever felt the need to assert themselves, and the full-length is a further exploration of that theme, with an introspective look into Gab’s own journey of identity. “It’s about me finding my place, and figuring out who I am and what I want to do, and how that functions in the world.”
