With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
RED MORNING LIGHT - OVER AND CONFUSED
Adelaide alr-rock trio - brothers Stefan (vocals/guitar) and Daniel Fedele (bass), and cousin Mathew Fedele (drums) - first formed in 2007 under the guise of Forbidden Envy at just eleven years of age. Now their debut single sees the band in their older form, utilising harmonizing vocals and gritty, yet melodic, guitar riffs. "It's about feeling used by a particular person," says Stefan. "It's also the feeling of not knowing how to change, to make a situation better".
AKUREI - AUGUST (feat. Golden Vessel)
MERCURY SUN - STUMBLING
From Toowoomba, Queensland this outfit can sure turn out to-die-for guitar riffs, as featured here on the latest track from the rockers - which seems to be their first since last year's 'Generation Why?' Ash Benham's raw, penetrative vocals add the grit. Catch live at the Currumbin Pub in Currumbin Waters, Gold Coast for a single release show on November 23.
DEAF - DEAD END
The Wellington, NZ post-punks are no stranger to Little Indie. This is the final single after 'Truancy' and 'Shards' from 'The DEAF EP' released October 31. Serrated gloominess from vocalist Luke Kavanagh tempered with a sonic wall of menacing drums and guitars.
LOCALLES - KEITH
Melbourne grunge-surf rockers share the second cut from their forthcoming second EP 'East Warncoort', due early next year. A rockier approach to previous, with layers of guitar and heavy bass, while Ted O’Neil deals the vocal slide. "'Keith' is a song about being so caught up in our online personas that we forget to enjoy what is right in front of you," say the band.
CINDY - DETHAMPHETAMINE
Auckland, NZ punk rockers (featuring members of DHDFDS, Magic Factory, Cool Runnings and solo artist Roy Irwin) have just released their self-titled debut EP - from which this 114-second track of riotous and blistering noise comes.
