Liverpool alt-pop outfit The Peach Fuzz returned last week with their new single 'Softie', released via Skeleton Key Records/Warners. Sugar-coating a cutting commentary on masculinity, expectation and identity politics with their typically, up-tempo, soft-wired electro-indie sound, The Peach Fuzz round the edges of modern life’s relentless pressures with honey-sweet vocals and smooth, vintage synths.
Who are you?
I am Phil Murphy and I play drums in The Peach Fuzz alongside Ella Risi (keys), Nathaniel Cummings (guitar/ vocals), Danny Murphy (guitar/vocals) and Paul T (bass).
Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.
We are all from (and based) in Liverpool, apart from Ella who is from near York! Danny and I are brothers and Danny, Nat and Paul went to school together. Ella was the last member to join to complete the line up!
We are an alt-pop band and are influenced by lots of different music and art. We are all currently enjoying The Big Moon's new album, and also songs by The Cocteau Twins and Real Estate.
Once we have an more or less complete idea of the song we usually make a demo of it which gets sent over to our producer, James Skelly. We then refine small aspects of parts etc and then head into the studio to record it with James and Chris Taylor (Parr St Studios). We like to record things very quickly and efficiently when in the studio!
Tell us a little about your new single.
'Softie' we have been playing in our live set for a while now. It has an important message and is available to hear now!
