Airing your debut release, putting out for public consumption that little fractious baby you have been nurturing and, literally, fine tuning, can be a nerve-wracking time. So as new duo GOSPEL - the pairing of ex-Creatures of Love's Chris Willsher and vocalist Beth Anderton-Allen - unveil their collaborative first offering, 'Disasters Running Wild', it may be an angst-filled time.
Not that they need worry, for this debut - unveiled today (June 2) via Soundcloud ahead of its official July 7 release thru Not Like That Records - far from being any 'disaster', is something of a four-minute electronic delight. Originally a demo sent by Anderton-Allen to Willsher in response to his seeking a vocalist after Creatures of Love disbanded last September and his electing to form another band - after hearing the track he was left in no doubt he had found the right person.
Mixed by Mikko Gordon (Atoms For Peace), with Willsher working guitars and piano over a simple repeated drum loop, hooked together with a hushed, yet intense, vocal framing, it turns this piece of electronica into a captivating debut that is a creatively polished gem.
