None Of Our Business, But Morrissey's Dropped By Label
He doesn't exactly have the knack of winning friends and influencing people easily, and with his outspoken and controversial public statements have not always been well-received, so any record label dealing with Morrissey needs to take a firm grip. And that is exactly what it appears Harvest have done.
According to a post on the Morrissey fansite True To You - which has in the past proved more or less to be the singer's mouthpiece - he and Harvest have parted company. The post reads: "Three weeks after the release of Morrissey's World Peace Is None Of Your Business (#2 UK, #14 US), Capitol Records/Harvest have ended their relationship with Morrissey, as directed by label boss Steve Barnett. Morrissey is once again in search of a record label."
Not sure how many will be rushing to invite him onto their roster, given that Morrissey appeared to criticise his former label earlier this week with a post alluding to "public deception" in the music industry on the same site. Praising three fans who made their own videos for songs from his latest album, 'World Peace Is None Of Your Business', he said: "These videos fully understand the intent of the song, and I am relieved that these films exist...A similar document ought to have been harvested by the record label, but please understand that the pop or rock industry can be as dedicated to perpetuating public deception as the world of politics itself."
And if that wasn't enough, we also have the raft of cancelled tour dates, the drama regarding opening act Kristeen Young, the (strenuously denied) allegations that Morrissey asked a bodyguard to murder the webmaster of Morrissey-solo.com, his pronouncement that Jamie Oliver should be "gassed by Princess Anne", and the urging of Scottish voters to separate from the rest of the UK in an interview.
You really wouldn't want to be his PR would you.
