Radio X DJ John Kennedy on the upcoming PIAS Nites show

Radio X DJ John Kennedy gives us a few words about what we can expect from next Monday's show with TOY, Oscar, and the live solo debut of Thomas Cohen.

Delighted and honoured to have been asked to DJ at the two PIAS Nites at Village Underground next week. Both bills offer a great combination of exciting new artists and firm favourites.

Tuesday’s show with Bloc Party, Blaenavon and Fews is already sold out so I thought I’d pick out Monday night’s line up here as you can still get tickets, and you don’t want to miss out!

TOY are the headliners and it seems as if they’ve been away for ages. Having a listen again to some of their tracks to get myself psyched (no pun intended) for their set, I had to listen to ‘Join The Dots’. You should too.

Opening up the PIAS Nite on Monday is Thomas Cohen. He may be familiar to you as the former frontman of S.C.U.M.. This, however, is a world away from their sonic maelstrom. Instead this is singer/songwriter territory -and it’s beautiful. Have a listen to ‘Bloom Forever’ his debut release written in hospital on the day his second son was born.

Squeezed between Thomas and TOY is Oscar. He’s had a series of great singles out through Wichita and did a brilliant session for X-Posure last year but I haven’t had the chance to see him perform yet so Monday is my chance and I can’t wait. He’ll be releasing his debut album ‘Cut And Paste’ in May and his new single ‘Sometimes’ will be the opening track. Much rockier than his previous releases it’s still pretty poptastic. Come along to the Village Underground and witness the wonder!

PIAS Nites takes place next Monday, January 25, at London's Village Underground. See further details/tickets here.

Hear John Kennedy on Radio X, Monday to Thursday 10pm - 1am, for the latest in new music and emerging artists.
