TRACK OF THE WEEK
PURS - SURROUND
The London five-piece do themselves proud with this new three-and-a-half minute track, which is just their second outing and follows the recent 'Tame'. Alt shoegaze-rock that rides on a relentless beat behind some quirky effects and hypnotic vocals.
WHITE ROOM - THINK TOO MUCH
Produced by Theo Verney and released on June 10, the latest single from the Brighton newcomers is a psychedelic themed Temples-esque track with Jake Smallwood's distorted vocals lending a retro feel. Catch live at Sticky Mike's, Brighton tonight, June 3.
LUCIAN - DRIFT (ft. SLEEPER)
From the prodigious New York producer and remixer's 'Forever' debut EP, released last week. Featuring the vocals of Sleeper, it melds glitchy beats with an R&B vocal.
LIVE//LEARN - COMFORT
Although we first heard this over a year ago, the Bedford experimental quartet seem to have reprised this indie-pop/dark techno inspired track. Joe Savage adds brooding vocals over resounding drums.
ACTOR - POWER
Leeds-based Louisa Osborn chanteuse returns with more of her impressive vocals in an 80s infused synth-pop track, produced by Rich Turvey (Blossoms) and mixed by Richard Formby (Zola Blood, Wild Beasts).
PALACE - BREAK THE SILENCE
More glistening pop from the smooth London outfit, and the first single to be taken from their expected debut album. Out now on Fiction Records, the track was produced by Adam Jaffery (Beach Baby, Dev Hynes) and mixed by Cenzo Townshend (The Maccabees, Florence + The Machine, Wild Beasts). Catch live at London's Bushstock festival on June 18.
PACIFIC HEIGHTS - BREATH AND BONE (ft. Deanne Kreig)
Featured in our New Sounds back in March with 'Buried By The Burden', this new single from the on-the-rise New Zealand producer Devin Abrams is another from his just released debut album, 'Stillness', out now via Create/Control. Smoothly textured, pulsating electronica with vocal samples and plucked guitar.
LGHTNNG - KEEP IT TOGETHER
New single from the Dutch, Groningen-based synthpop outfit, combining a dreamy retro sound with Doortje Hiddema's smooth-as-silk vocals tripping over synth samples and pulsing beat.
SLAUGHTER BEACH - GLAZE
The Danish trio follow last year’s 'Love/Venice' EP with this new sub-three minute single - out today via Norwegian label Brilliance - of big hooks, soaring riffs and dreamy rich vocals.
Tropical, math-tinged fare from the Liverpudlian outfit's debut EP ‘Lust’. Not one 'Vynce' among them, but Peter Pegasiou takes credit for the infectious, vocal hooks and some of the effective guitar riffs.
