New Sounds #64 June 14 2016

TOOTHLESS - PALM'S BACKSIDE (ft. Marika Hackman)
Ed Nash - aka Toothless - releases this new, rather curiously titled, self-produced new single (featuring Marika Hackman) on vinyl from July 29 and digitally available now via ParadYse/Transgressive Records. The follow-up to recent debut 'Terra', it's a slow builder of an indie pop tune with whispery low-key vocals. Star rating: 3/5

STIKS - MASSIVE
One of four tracks uploaded by new 18-year-old Chelmsford duo - Sam Hooper (vocals) and Curtis Driver (production) - who formed six months ago and make indie rock/hip-hop tunes from a home studio in deepest Essex. This is the title track from the pair's debut mixtape. Interesting amount of potential judging by this. Mark as one to watch. Star rating: 4/5

TETISH - SHIPWRECK
No sooner have the classically trained Israeli electro pop duo Etan Salomon (vocals/keys) and Itai Shirtit (keys/vocals) given us 'Glow' - which we featured on Little Indie just recently - they now drop this second taster from their self-titled debut album, released on July 22 via Solarie Records.  Catchy, bouncy grooves. Star rating: 3.5/5

SWAY CLARKE - TANGERINE
Released last week, and taken from his debut EP, ‘Bad Love‘, the Toronto-born, Berlin-based singer/songwriter unveils reveals this single cut, featuring Tycho. It’s a captivating number which details a love lost through enchanting beats and lyrics that resonate with the listener. Sway describes it as having ”been a nightmare to clear, sample-wise. But I will not give up because it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever written." Chilled soul and evocative vocals. Star rating: 4/5

THE BRITANYS - GET MY
Latest single just released from the New York noise-punks that Little Indie first caught back in 2014 (see here). 'Get My' - recorded in their basement studio in Brooklyn - sees the band work with producer Gordon Raphael, the man behind The Strokes’ debut, 'Is This It', and create another of their fuzz-laced garage rockers. Star rating: 3.5/5
