** PREMIERE ** Sauvage - December

Words: Ellie Ward

Newcastle four-piece Sauvage are a new band with if not exactly a new sound, certainly one a little apart from much else you might hear emanating from the North East.

Little Indie today gives you the first hearing of the band's self-released debut single 'December'.

Taken from their mini-album entitled 'Synthetic Silence', set for release on May 27 2017, and recorded at Blank Studios in Newcastle with John Martindale from Shields, 'December', reveals the band's guitarist Jonny Lott, is "about one of [vocalist] Rob's ex's, I think. We've had drunken talks about most of the songs he writes, and they all tend to lead back to this common theme. Most of the time I ignore him, but pretty sure I'm right this time!"

The song's lyrics - whoever they may relate to - are driven by the drowsy balance of smooth rhythm section, lush keys and a slight alt-jazz element that combine with some beautiful guitar touches, subtle harmonies that frame Rob Griffiths' low key vocal delivery. All leading to what is quite a blissful first offering from Sauvage - and a perfect opening to this month of December.

Sauvage play a single launch show at Bar Loco, Newcastle on December 4 with guests Callum Pitt and Many Moons.

Sauvage are: Rob Griffiths - vocals, keys, guitar; Jonny Lott - guitar, backing vocals; Adam Sams - bass, backing vocals; Michael Mather - drums, percussion.
