Listen: Edinburgh quartet Indigo Velvet up the trop pop vibes with 'Mona'

Words: Richard Cobb

Edinburgh's four-piece tropical-indie poster boys of the Leith Riviera, Indigo Velvet, provide the perfect soundtrack to your loosely titled British ‘summer’ with literally just released new single ‘Mona.’

You know when you were at primary school and you opened your lunch box to uncover the standard over buttered cheese sandwiches and penguin bar that was always ruined by the piss poor joke that encased it? Just as you’re about to share the miserable punch-line with your mates to similarly ruin their day, to your delight you catch sight of a carton of Um Bongo and suddenly your mood improved drastically and your mind was transformed into some sort of Caribbean monsoon? ‘Mona’ is a similar ray of light.

The track sounds like it should soundtrack some sort of uplifting aquatic-based Disney film and the artwork perfectly complements the vibe of the song too, adding to the overall feel of the tune.

If you can honestly say that after listening to this song you haven’t ventured to the back of the cupboard to look out your favourite Hawaiian shirt and flip flops, you’re lying.

They have some imminent live shows in hand too, if you're north of the border, so go take a listen.
