10 Little Indie Hot Picks

Fed up with hearing the same old tunes? Well, why not cast your ears over ten of our new specially handpicked hot picks!

PARTY HARDLY - MINDCHANGER

The Leeds slacker pop rockers (formerly known as WULFs) follow ‘Have We Got Time’ with this new scuzzy cut of gritty guitars and sharp vocals; its mellow opening seconds belying what's to come.

CALLUM PITT - RABBITS

Digital third single release (on September 22) from the Newcastle indie-folk artist. Mixing his bewitching voice with intricate guitar work and roll-off-the-tongue lyrics, it works up slowly to a swelling chorus.

WEIRD OWL - WAR

Brooklyn psych-synthers release new album - produced by Psychic TV's Jeffrey Berner - 'Bubblegum Brainwaves', on October 13. This second single explores how the act of war has changed - becoming democratized, so that anyone can take part without following a set of prescribed rules - and shows a darker, heavier side of the band.

DOLLS - ARMCHAIR PSYCHIATRIST

Laid back groove (out via DIY label Roadkill Records on October 6 - with a launch show same night at The Shacklewell Arms in London), infectious grunge-pop and dual vocals from London duo guitarist Jade and drummer Bel.

SMUT - VIDEO CELL

Taken from their forthcoming new album, 'End of Sam', released October 27 via Broken Circles, fiery, infectious rock from the Cincinnati outfit. Tay Roebuck’s lyrics detail mobile phone addiction, while guitars wail around vocal harmonies.

REYKJAVIK KIDS - NIGHTMOIST

Digital jittery post-punk
release from Newcastle's Paul Tissington (synths, guitars) and LA-based Scott Munro (vocals, guitar). ‘Nightmoist’ shows off the best elements of their song writing, with tense rhythms, scything guitar lines and introspective lyrics about love and longing.

NO KILL - EDDIE VEDDER

The second single - following the swooning 'Tremolo' which came out earlier this year - from Brooklyn's grunge duo. Dark, reverb-drenched power pop tune that builds to a lush, guitar-driven wall of sound behind dulcet vocals.

HOLIDAY GHOSTS - CAN'T BEAR TO BE BORING

The Falmouth Ghosts follow debut single 'In My Head' with this jaunty, garage-rock singalong which comes from their self-titled debut album (out September 22 via PNKSLM Recordings), and which sees drummer Katja Rackin take the lead on vocals.

HALCYON DRIVE - THE BIRDS

Return of the Australian electro rockers with their intricate new single, layering dark electronic elements with sophisticated instrumentation and sharp production, it is the first taste of the Melbourne trio's debut album.

WHITE FEVER - EVERYONE'S GOT THEIR PRICE

Closing track to the London dark indie-pop quartet's upcoming EP 'Concrete' out on September 29, this follow-up to 'Sands', leads with Ida Jacobsson-Wells' ethereal vocals over an upbeat, bass-driven chorus.
