Track Of The Day :: Linying - Tall Order
Words: Ellie Ward
We first caught Singaporean singer-songwriter Linying back in the summer of 2016 with 'Sticky Leaves', followed later by 'Paris 12', the title track from her EP released in September of the same year.
Her captivatingly delicate vocal and richly layered instrumental arrangements of ambient piano, synth and snare were enough to recognise what a talent she is.
New single 'Tall Order' is her first release since the 'Paris 12' EP. The song, she says, is about "seeing yourself deteriorate. It's like being half-asleep and half-assing everything for a long time, and all of a sudden waking up — you see yourself in a different light and realise that without knowing it, you've become a lousy shell of a person: the kind who complains about little things and lies to themselves and evades hard questions.
"'Tall Order' was me realising that about myself."
