Best new tracks Down Under #22

With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.

COSMO'S MIDNIGHT - LOWKEY

We don't know how many electronic-rap fusions there are about the Sydney scene, but this duo - joined by US rapper Buddy and the UK's own Jay Prince - have put together something a little left of centre here. Taken from their debut album 'What Comes Next', released June 15, and following their recent 'Polarised', synths kick off the opening in a punchy, minimal production, with Buddy and Jay's hip-hop vocals.

Released yesterday (June 1), 18-year-old Newcastle, New South Wales-based Tilly Murphy delivers some gorgeous fuzz-popgaze on this new single, accompanied by her own self-directed music video (which features Raave Tapes frontman Joab Eastley).

CAREER GIRLS - NAUGHTY BOY

Auckland, NZ-based producer Lawrence Goodwin (of The Pleasure Majenta, Caroles and DOG Power) has dropped this latest five-and-a-half minute techno banger, which opens on a menacing thrust of pounding percussion and builds over a cacophony of electronics.

KULT KYSS - CHI CUP

Melbourne production duo, Rromarin and Haxx, mix a heady swirl of pounding four to the floor beats and the ghostly vocals of Rromarin, building into an hypnotic repetitive pulse effect.

SLUM SOCIABLE - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT

The Melbourne duo - Ed Quinn and Miller Upchurch - follow last year’s self-titled debut LP with this new single. Lo-fi, jazztronica synth-hop, with a sparse production, spacious guitar lines, and a tender vocal by Miller.

EBONY - SLEEP

After her debut track 'Skin & Bones' last year, the 21-year-old Sydney-based singer-songwriter and producer returns with this entrancing slice of electronic-pop. "'Sleep' is about a recurring nightmare that refuses to go away on its own, forcing you to find the courage to fight it. It’s about finding the strength to confront whatever hurt is lingering in your life whether it is a literal nightmare or a certain nightmarish adversity."
