Villagers return with new album and track preview, 'A Trick Of The Light'

Words: Ellie Ward

It's been awhile since we heard from Irish indie folk band Villagers, the Dublin-based outfit formed in 2008 by songwriter and vocalist/guitarist Conor O'Brien.

Now they have announced the release of a new album - the first in over two years, since 'Where Have You Been All My Life?'

'The Art Of Pretending To Swim', due on September 21 via Domino. Listen to lead cut 'A Trick Of The Light' below via the Bob Gallagher-directed video.

Says Conor: "Myself and Bob got together and discussed the song thematically and came to the conclusion that there was no other option but to make a short film in which we follow a dishevelled shamanistic protagonist who mysteriously triggers an altered state of consciousness in everyone he meets, or at least believes that he does. We also wanted lots of dancing and to inspire a general feeling of 'what the hell did I just watch?' in the viewer."
