Best new tracks Down Under #34

With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.

PARADISE CLUB - HEART OF GOLD

Adelaide duo Gere Fuss (vocals, guitar) and Huon Pisoni (bass),
harness an 80s pop vibe with a 90s emo flavour, and on this self-produced new track they follow 'Away' and 'Saturday Night' with a more pop-influenced direction, while still employing their dreamy signature sound laid on the previous singles.

NYXEN - CHAINS

First single - released August 17 - from the Sydney producer Chelsea Lester's upcoming EP. Last featured here at the end of last year with 'In The City', this latest once again fuses layered vocals over punchy electro-pop beats and pulsing bass synth, that harnesses an upbeat, yet melancholy groove to the reverbed mix.

LITTLE QUIRKS - I TOLD YOU SO

We last heard from Newcastle, New South Wales sisters Abbey (vocals, guitar) and Mia (drums) and cousin Jaymi (vocals, mandolin) Toole, in April with 'Crumbled'. Now they return with another slice of their infectious indie-folk-pop sound, mixed with engaging harmonies and mandolin.

SO BELOW - DRIVE

First featured by Little Indie back in 2016 with her self-titled debut EP, Auckland, NZ electro-pop artist Madeline North follows her second EP 'II', produced by Big Taste (Dua Lipa, Shamir, Justin Bieber) and Space Above (Aaron Short formerly of The Naked And Famous), with this new track. Layered processed vocals and harmonies ride over dark dance beats and synths. Her debut album is due for release early next year.

HORROR MY FRIEND - WEDDING

Credit: Kane Hibbard

Following 'Pavement' at the start of the year, this latest single from Adelaide's noise fuzz outfit comes ahead of their second album, 'Home Life', out on September 21 via Poison City Records. Ricocheting percussion, thrashy guitars meld with punk-tinged, garage rock ferocity. "‘Wedding’ is a track soaked in fuzz, upbeat and noisy, but lyrically is an introspective rumination on the guilt of relationships being stretched to their limits when doing what you love, and when considering which sacrifice to make," says drummer Sam Kolesnik.
