Watch :: NZ post-punks DEAF share 'Shards' visuals

Words: Linn Branson

DEAF are pretty darned good actually; which, seeing as they hail from New Zealand's hotbed of talent, doesn't surprise us.

We featured their 'Shards' single in July on release, and now the Wellington-based post-punk five-piece have dropped a video for it. The track also appears on the band's forthcoming five-track debut 'The DEAF EP', out October 31.

Directed by James Henley and DEAF bassist Hayden Ellis, the black and white clip features a character dressed as a cowboy as he wanders through a fancy dress house party, and those he comes across there.

"We didn't have a budget so we decided to go for broke with the lo-fi, hand-made feel," say the directors. "We love monochrome and Super 8 and that look felt like an appropriate way to express the song's mood and theme in pictures. The story will continue in the upcoming video for DEAF’s first single ‘Truancy’ which follows these characters as the night continues."

DEAF play Caroline in Wellington on September 21, followed by Auckland's Wine Cellar on September 29.
