With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
DEKLEYN - CHASING DREAMS
Pronounced "Decline", Sydney electro duo, Justin Kleyn and Matt Decelis, combine electronic elements, soul tinged vocals and harmonies to highlight their smooth alt-indie pop sound on this new November released single, taken from their 'Unsaid' EP out December 6.
TWIG PIGEON - TOKENS (ft. Rachel Fraser)
From the forthcoming EP 'Beyonds' out in January, Auckland, NZ-based producer Ricky Simmonds unveils his follow up to the recent soulful 'Phantom' with this self-produced percussive single cut with warm, washed out production and the captivating vocals of fellow Kiwi Rachel Fraser.
LAZY LOVE - FROM HONOLULU
Released this week - in advance of their debut EP dropping December 6 - a buzzy indie pop gem from the Brisbane quartet. A quick follow up to October's 'Speechless'.
PRICE PARK - FIRE (ft. Joe Kosky)
The second single from Melbourne producer Tom Armstrong (GodWolf, Aunty Donna), which features an irresistible array of trap beats, shining guitars, and a catchy chorus line of "will you start a fire and light it under me", with singer/songwriter Joe Kosky helping on vocals. “'Fire' is all about getting stuck in routines, usually destructive ones, whether that’s with someone or some ‘things’," says Armstrong. "It’s that ‘rock bottom’ that we all hit at some point in our lives, and the resolve for things to change that eventuates.”
LIMITED PAST - GET AWAY FROM ME
The Perth-based singer-songwriter's first foray into new realms after a move from electronic music. Just under two and a half minutes, the standout has to be the raw vocal that soars over a simple piano and guitar arrangement.
DRESS CODE - EYESIGHT
The Adelaide four-piece may have only been in existence since earlier this year, but this lilting alt-rock debut - released November 16 - is just about spot on. "The song is loosely based around the feeling of being distant from the people close to us and is open to interpretation," say the band. Catch them live in the flesh on December 29 when they support Good Doors at the Crown & Anchor in Adelaide.
