Sing & Tell :: Molars

Nottingham emo-pop-punk trio Molars release their debut EP, 'Tight, But Not Groundbreaking', this month following single cuts, opener 'White Walls' and the more recent 'No Words'.

Who are you?

My name's Matt Beardsall, I play drums in Molars. On guitar and vocals is Chris Fahey, and on bass is Dec Burns.

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.

Me and Chris started playing together in September 2017. Originally intending to be a two-piece, after we recorded some demos we realised we needed some bass, which lead to Dec joining the band in December of that year. We worked on new material throughout the first half of the year, before recording our debut EP in June 2018.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

We’re heavily inspired by Midwest emo and there's definitely some pop punk in there too. We love heavier bands like Tiny Moving Parts, Taking Back Sunday, and State Champs, as well as bands such as The 1975 and Pale Waves.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

Chris tends to come up with the initial ideas for songs, and then we all work on them together. We then record at Phoenix Sound with Hamish who helps produce them with a fresh set of ears.

Tell us a little about your new EP and single.

Our debut EP is out on 14th December, and is called 'Tight, But Not Groundbreaking'. We were lucky enough to have Lizzy Farrell feature on our most recent single 'No Words' and we just released a video for it which we're really excited about!

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

We've got one last show this year at The Chameleon in Nottingham on December 13th to celebrate our EP release. We're hoping to get out and play some new cities early next year.

How's the immediate future looking, plans-wise?

We have the EP coming out in December and we are currently recording some new material as we speak. Hopefully that'll be out soon!

Where can we hear more of your music?

Spotify is probably the best place to find us. We've also got exclusive stuff on both YouTube and Instagram.

What social media platforms can we find you on?
