Track Of The Day :: Sinclaire - Headspace
Words: Linn Branson
I said, hey... 'Headspace', the debut single from new Sydney indie pop-rock five-piece Sinclaire, is a pretty darned bonzer entré. Believe!
They may only have formed as Sinclaire this year, but there's no doubting that their previous experience in other bands has stood them in good stead for this venture.
Produced by Stevie Knight during the summer at Sydney's Electric Sun Studios, the obviously Oz- accented baritone vocal of Michael Cross is just way, way too delicious as he delivers the catchy chorus line over shimmering guitars and a synth-infused coating, making for just under three and a half minutes that you really shouldn't miss getting inside of.
Lyrically touching on the negative aspect being overly self-criticical, it is something the frontman identifies with.
"I’ve always been my harshest critic because I strongly believe that constantly questioning what you do is an important part of improving yourself," Cross reveals. "If you become complacent, you lose your drive to progress. Though, the problem with this mindset is that you’re truly content with anything you do which is especially tough from a creative perspective. So, I took a step back and used Headspace as an opportunity to vocalise the consequences this cycle can create in an effort to realise that you need to appreciate the things you do and maintain a balance between two perspectives."
The band's first EP arrives early next year.
Sinclaire are: Michael Cross - vocals; Aiden Turner - guitar; Joshua Gonzalez - guitar; Jake Sheath - keys; Lachlan McDonald - drums.
