The Dunts
SWG3, Glasgow

Words: Paul Dawson
Through all the doom and gloom surrounding the current coronavirus epidemic and the subsequent banning of mass gatherings in Scotland, something drastic was needed to lift the spirits of us Scots, and this is where an excellent gig by Scottish indie-rockers The Dunts is more than appropriate.
The Glasgow-based outfit brought their unique brand of ‘council punk’ to a sold-out SWG3 warehouse, and proved to continue the phenomenal form they have shown over the last 18 months. From TRNSMT to The Garage, and finally, to the largest stage of their relatively young career, The Dunts are truly on their way to becoming one of Scotland's defining bands.
For such a massive gig for the four-piece, they don’t disappoint. Kicking off with recent release 'Marilyn', they barrel through as an unstoppable force, creating one of the most memorable concert experiences this reviewer has personally experienced. Throughout their hour-plus set they played a mix of some of their most memorable tunes including electric performances of 'Birds And The Beez’, ‘Hampden Cabs’ and ‘Bad Decisions’, which brought the fans rightfully to a collective roaring masse, with the band using these songs to increase the already ear-deafening crowd roars to a fever pitch.

They also surprise fans with some brand new songs, including 'Don't Look Down', 'Leccie', 'Individuation' and what will be their upcoming next single, 'Learn'. These songs are fantastic and only expand on the already superb catalogue the band has released over their short tenure.
The set was topped off by what can only be described as one of the best encores seen for some time. Beginning with a chilling performance of ‘Tommy’ with lead singer Rab Smith in the midst of the packed room, which saw fans clambering just for a simple handshake or touch of the young man. But when he stepped back on stage this is where the encore began to become spectacular, spurred on by repeated chants throughout the night.
A crowd request of OutKast's ‘Hey Ya’ was not planned, but they pulled out a fine rendition; the crowd by this time near fever pitch, creating an atmosphere that can only be done to such perfection by us ravenous Scots! An ending performance of ‘Dimitri’ capped off an overall outstanding evening. With their planned SXSW appearances which they were due to leave for almost immediately after this show, being cancelled, and looking like this could be their last gig for some time, The Dunts have left us a fine memory. Till we meet again, guys.
