Low Hummer share visuals for single ’The Real Thing’

Words: Ellie Ward

Hull band Low Hummer droppwd their more recent single 'The Real Thing' back in February. Now the five-piece are back with its video partner.

Coming in advance of their self-titled debut EP due out later in 2020 on Dance To The Radio, for the video the band have leaned further into their 80s and industrial influences, explains singer and guitarist Daniel Mawer.

“I’ve always loved watching Top of the Pops 2, especially the 80s era where the performances had a really nice daftness to them. I wanted to emulate a ‘live’ performance as best I could that look like it was straight from another decade, using the actors as props to play around. We like to use our mates for all our artwork and videos, Luke is a really good friend with some nifty VHS cameras, we worked on the whole thing together from shooting to editing and he’s a wizard to work with."

Low Hummer had been scheduled to tour heavily throughout spring and summer, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, like all other artists, have been forced to abandon plans.

"Obviously a lot of our shows over the next few months are cancelled," adds Mawer, "we had so many exciting gigs lined up so we’re obviously gutted but we spent most of last year in isolation making music so we’re ready to do that all over again. The main thing is the health of everyone concerned with the festivals, so many of them involve DIY independent promoters and event organisers and we wish them all the best as they navigate through such tricky postponements. We hope that by autumn we’ll be out playing again. We’re already itching to get going, and it’ll feel like a really poignant moment when we get back on stage again”
