Track Of The Day :: Full Colour - Times Change
Words: Linn Branson
Full Colour, the Halifax-based alt-indie five-piece (all aged between 17 - 19) were going full steam as they headed into 2020, with a UK support tour in March with Love Fame Tragedy, followed by their second single, the rather fine 'Times Change', released on May 4 via Good Soldier, coming a year after their 'Miles Apart' debut last June.
With a pandemic putting a halt to their engines (festival appearances such as The Great Escape being one casualty), it has been unfortunate timing with the single not probably receiving its due attention. With production by Larry Hibbit (Nothing But Thieves, Sundara Karma), mastering by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Pale Waves) and mixing by Tom Longworth (Vistas), 'Times Change' certainly comes with a fine pedigree.
Rippling with youthful zest and intensity, 'Times Change' is built on a soaring, euphoric four-minute soundscape. As the ruthless drums lend weight behind the stimulating guitar riffs, and enthusiastic and passionate vocals, it comes charging through the speakers with a sonic thrust.
"‘Times Change’ is all about moving away from home and wondering whether the people you leave behind will miss you and ultimately how you deal with that separation," explains frontman Conrad Berriff. "It was written over the course of a few days when Alex (Holdsworth, guitarist) sent a recording of the riff to me and I added lyrics and melody before we took it into the practise room and ‘bandified’ it!"
Check it out via the video, below, which admirably captures the band's energy.
"We wanted to capture that raw energy and passion that’s on display at our live shows in the music video," Conrad agrees, "do we crammed ourselves into a tiny house in South London for the day and tried to recreate that intimate yet high energy atmosphere you’ll feel at our gigs."
And you can expect plenty more of those in the Full Colour diary once lockdown lifts and government guidelines allow, along with rescheduled dates from before lockdown.
There will be new music again in the not-so-distant future, too, Conrad tells Little Indie.
"We definitely won’t be waiting another year to release again and we’re very excited for everyone to see what we have in the pipeline!"
