Track Of The Day :: Austrian indie-poppers VAGUE return with new cut 'Waters' from next album
Words: Ellie Ward
Two years after we last featured Austrian band VAGUE with 'Hey Johnny', the indie-pop five-piece return with their first new release since second album 'Land'.
Out now through Siluh Records, 'Waters' is the first single from their upcoming third album (to be released in 2021), and sees the band matured in sound and style over the last two years.
Working with producer Wolfgang Möstl, the minimalist three and a half minutes of 'Waters' feels mellow and tranquil, with Gabriel Hyden's vocals bringing in a potent quality, over a catchy bass riff, synth patterns staccato guitar.
"With 'Waters' we were trying to create a less melancholic, less blurry and more clear and direct sound, rather searching for the very cause of events, instead of bathing right in it," explains
Hyden.
"Because a search can be a very positive thing. The song is about keeping your system going, being upbeat, trying to be objective, push yourself to be open-minded. It's also an advice to let go sometimes - even in these rather dark times. And do not forget to drink water every once in a while, it might be surprisingly relieving.“
