Being hailed as "the most exciting new guitar band in the UK" may be some title to live up to when you've only been together six months, but so far this raggedy uncompromising bunch of three 19-year-olds go, they are certainly ticking all the right boxes. Yes, their grungy garage style might sound a little like a Blackpool variant of Nirvana, but the flying riffs and vocalist Nathan Day's grit-raddled vocal, turn this debut EP (produced by The Horrors' Cam Blackwood) into something that's as raw and energetic as you're likely to find. Bold as brass Day kicks off on 'Queen Of Hearts' with banging scorched riffs and a welter of irrepressible drums, as he asks 'anyone up for a kill / I don't like the way they looked at me.' It's the kind of tune that rocks to the anthemic level - which it is surely set to become in the future. 'Napalm', too, blasts out a seering opening on a power driven bash-bash-bash from drummer Jack Bentham. Though slightly more toned down than its predecessor, it's nevertheless as incendiary as its title may presuppose. With the spiky explosion that is 'Choke On Bones' completing the set, thrusting its way into the head on a unflinching ferocity of percussion and guitars, one is left wondering that if they can sound this good at this relatively early stage, what heights are they set to reach over the next 12 months.
