Track Of The Day :: Mourning Birds - Eve Of The Isle
Take three lads acting rather coquettishly, put them in (badly applied) make-up and nice frocks, stick in a few guitars - and what you have may sound in theory like a god-awful mess, but in practice is the latest single from Medway's Mourning Birds.
'Eve Of The Isle' is the second release from the trio, out on March 24 via The Preservation Society label, and follows their blasting debut of late last year, 'Oh Yeh!' And as they managed to do on that in one minute and 46 seconds in energy and down-n-dirty flirty bluesy rock, they are no less shy about second time around, just running over the two-minute mark.
As they whip both riffs and hair in their 'laddette' video, and preen their way along a hard bass drive with a primal grunge vocal overlay, it's like The Cure on a date night with Nirvana.
