Introducing :: Them Things
Newcastle four-piece Them Things are doing much for multi-cultural relations with their members including a Russian, one Frenchman and two bog standard Brits.
Them Things formed last year after Louis Adams (vocals) met Ilya Tarnopolskiy (guitar) in a train station after Louis had missed his last train through, er, being slightly inebriated at the time. The pair started having what was presumably a drunken chat about music, which led to their making plans to get together for a jam session.
After recording a few tracks, Ilya opted to drop out of the accountancy degree he was studying for and decided to do production full time. Ilya then introduced Tom Ungerer - the French connection - who was studying in Newcastle, to handle bass duties, and from here set about recording their debut 'Good Weird' EP in Ilya's bedroom.
When filming the video for track, 'Oh Brother', they met Harry who was working as a runner on the set. He played drums and subsequently came in to be the fourth man.
Them Things have already supported Dead Meadow and Maximo Park and are set to play Evolution Emerging next month, before embarking on dates in the UK and France with musician friends Symphonic Pictures, which they say will culminate with their staying on in France for awhile to record their next record in a house in Hossegor on the French coast.
Combining a range of music styles from psychedelic to 70's west coast rock and sax-drenched dreamy surf pop, check out the four tracks of the EP - which was released on April 18 - here plus previous tracks from the band. The video produced last year for lead track 'Oh Brother' (below) is worth a watch too.
And it is to be hoped that things work out for Them Things since Ilya's dad back home in Russia has still no idea that his beloved son far from being on course to a nice, steady well-paid accountancy job, has instead embarked on the debauched lifestyle of a rock star!
Them Things play Evolution Emerging in Newcastle on May 24.
Them Things are: Louis Adams - vocals/guitar; Ilya Tarnopolskiy - guitar/Moog; Tom Ungerer - bass; Harry Jenkinson - drums.
