Track Of The Day :: Winter In Toronto - Pen Y Fan
So here's a thing, two young guys based in London, with a Canadian styled moniker - and a debut track sounding, well, a bit Welsh to us.
But aside from that, it's an acoustic folkie and likely to send you pleasantly drifting as it meanders along in its rather lovely and engaging way; we certainly couldn't leave it until the last note had ended - and touching on six and a half minutes, it was a long one too to keep our attention.
Acoustic duo Winter In Toronto, namely Cameron Pickard and Ellis Mizen, have been together now for around 2 years, and although they had uploaded some tracks previously, for some reason they decided to then remove all. 'Pen Y Fan' is the first track they have released since then.
As for the track itself? 'Pen y Fan is a mountain in Wales. Cameron hiked up it awhile ago, and it inspired him to write the song," explains Ellis. "It's used as a sort of metaphor for relationship troubles and the like, sort of being lost. It's left purposefully unresolved, but we also like people to make their own impressions about the song."
Winter In Toronto are doing a few more little lovelies like this one on Wednesday (April 30) at the Fox and Firkin in Lewisham, south London. So if you're around, drop in and lend an ear. They also play the Hoxton Workshop on May 27.
