Introducing :: Columbus
At one time we would exclaim in wonderment if we found a new band whose members were barely in their twenties. Now, even late teens is getting on a bit when we are coming across more and more bands who not only are still teenagers, but young enough to also still be in full-time education.
Latest to come our way are the aspiring six-piece Columbus. All of whom are just a tender 17 years of age and attend the same North London school (where they are currently studying for A-Levels), but who have already dipped their toes in the water of live performance.
Influenced by house, surf and indie, the lads have so far played one gig - at Islington's 02 Academy (where they play again in July), so obviously they are aiming to start big - and saved up enough to afford some studio time, resulting in the demo which you can hear below, 'Doubletake'. They remind us a little of Birmingham's Lovats with their guitar sound and melodies, and project an interestingly different edge in Kim Bluman's vocals.
Columbus play 02 Academy, Islington on July 4.
Columbus are: Kim Bluman (vocals), Harry Smithson (guitar), Michael Schwimmer (guitar), Freddie Girling (bass), Will Batter (synth), Finn Orme (drums),
