Listen :: Weyes Blood - Hang On
Weyes Blood is the work of Pennsylvanian artist Natalie Mering, perhaps better known for her work on Ariel Pink's 2013 album 'Mature Themes', and as one-time member of experimental troupe Jackie-O Motherfucker.
With a sound rooted in American and British folk with elements of psych and pop - created by traditional instruments (guitar, piano, drums) set against electronics and tape effects, multi-part harmonies, collages and the melodic qualities of delay - there’s a sense of an olden day song-craft brought into the future, creating a synthesis between all the best of the 20th century and those that came before.
The sense of there being an olden day fragility to the music of Weyes Blood is in no small part heightened by Mering’s lyrics and vocals. The former unflinchingly emotional, while her vocals offer a rare choral purity and ethereal quality.
'Hang On' is available now as a digital single and also available as an instant download on all pre-orders of Weyes Blood's 'The Innocents', which is out on October 20.
