[Video] Viet Cong - Silhouettes
Formed out of Canadian band Women, ex-members Matt Flegel and Mike Wallace (with Scott Munro and Daniel Christiansen) are now two-fourths of Viet Cong, the indie punk devils who have just set things alight this week with the release of their self-titled debut album (released through Jagjaguwar).
The band have just shared the video for 'Silhouettes', directed by Brook Linder. Bassist Flegel says of it: “We’re all sci-fi junkies. There’s always a lot of Philip K. Dick and Arthur C. Clarke being read in the van. I think we mentioned ‘Alien,’ ‘Predator,’ ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘2001’ as possible reference points for Brook to draw from.”
The result is a sci-fi like shot visual of a spaceman who visits a haunted house. “Silhouettes came from blending iconography from old haunted house films and late ’70s, early ’80s sci-fi. So, pluck an astronaut from a spacewalk and set him in the House on Haunted Hill. The fun comes with playing those types off of each other, like mashing an old DOS-like computer interface up against the organic-looking galactic explosions,” says Linder.
