We were treated last autumn to two tracks off this debut LP by the Philadelphian outfit Blood Sound', in the form of the Joy Division meets Human League amidst some tentative psych'n'synth drones of 'Acid Summer', and the synthed-up post-punk composition 'L.A. Punk'.
Dark shards of 80s-influenced new wave electro are employed across all other ten tracks that range from the danceable electro pop of opener 'I Don't Wanna' through to highlight 'Psychic Fear', filled with a welter of synths and electronic drums with an edge of goth about it.
And you can expect a lot of synths going on in this album, given that all three band members - Chris Jordan, vocals, drum machine; Tristan McKeever, bass; Vincent Tkac, guitar -alternate on them: three tracks - 'TV Synth 1', 'TV Synth 2' and 'TV Synth 3' which are short, interspersed synthy/ghostly bit parts.
Closer, the compelling four-minute 'Catacombs', shows off Jordan's deep and warmly caressing vocals over pulsing bass lines, that makes you want to dance "on the roof" and go gooey over the flowing undercurrent.
For what they do, Blood Sound do it with panache and .... synths. Synthly super.
