Introducing :: Egyptian Blue
Words: Linn Branson
Formed last September, Egyptian Blue are a young late teen Essex (Colchester)/Suffolk (Ipswich)-based four-piece indie rock outfit that you are going to be hearing a lot more of.
Taking their name from a hue description on a colour chart, and with a few gigs under their belt, they have just put out their debut five-track EP 'Coma Chain'.
Having their name already starting to filter out to 'industry folk', their combination of riffy guitar melodies, the darkly raw and penetrating vocals of Leith Ambrose, and psych/post-punk layering, belies both their ages and limited experience. Given they have barely been together five months and have already produced an EP and are set to play one of the capital's most prestigious venues, this is a band that could well be headlining major venues before their one-year anniversary.
EP highlights: 'Venus Fly Trap', '7 Years'.
Egyptian Blue play London's Scala on February 28 supporting Bombay Bicycle Club.
Egyptian Blue are: Leith Ambrose -vocals, guitar; Andy Buss - guitar; Luke Phelps - bass; Tom Bellotti - drums
