The Liverpudlian surf pop four are generating almost as much excitement as another earlier local bunch of lads, who in the same way erred to the side of playing catchy three-minute pop numbers.
Circa Waves demonstrated their knack of producing bouncy guitar hooks on first single ‘Get Away’, the simple, summery track that got their name being talked about. On this, their debut album, they produce possibly five or six tracks much to the same carefree, youthful formula, with the rest of the 40 minutes feeling a little like autumn had started to set in.
'T-Shirt Weather', 'Fossils', 'So Long' and the title track all fire out an equal amount of upbeat vivacity that can be heard lurking in the outer perimeters of Britpop. It does, however, start to wear a little thin when subscribing to the same format over an entire record, although one or two tracks such as the moving 'My Love' (“I’m giving up/ my love/ my love to something else”) do make up for the lack of diversity that would have turned this from just a fairly good work into a stellar outing.
