The four tracks on this second EP from Finland's Van Dammes speed past so fast - all four are done and dusted in under seven minutes - that they are rather like an hors d'oeuvres for the main course.
That the Helsinki garage punks title the work 'Better Than Sex' may allude to its brevity, or as a truism; either way you will want to repeat the experience. [Their debut EP, released in April last year, and titled 'VD', may or may not bear relevance to 2015's '...Sex'.] Van Dammes fast, furious pace is akin to the Ramones, and more recently, to the likes of Parquet Courts and Greys in its exuberant and infectious punk quality with lashings of killer riffs and meaty hooks.
Opening track and first single from the new EP, 'Vesna (Flash in the Night)', is apparently about Serbian flight attendant Vesna Vulović who holds the world record for surviving the highest fall without a parachute when her plane crashed in 1972.
'Better Than Sex' was digitally released on February 26 via VILD Recordings.
