Track Of The Day :: Jason Nolan - Brush Social Club
You only need take one listen to Jason Nolan's 'Brush Social Club' to see why he is highly rated by contemporary Jamie Woon.
The 21-year-old Surrey (Oxted) producer and singer/songwriter - currently based in York where he is at university - began working on his own electronic music at the age of 16, taking influences from the diverse likes of Talking Heads, Jai Paul, Arcade Fire, Feist, Neil Young and Drake. Trained as a jazz flautist, he also took in the music he heard via his music fan father such as Bowie, The Beatles - and of course Jethro Tull, from where no doubt he picked up on Ian Anderson's prowess with a flute.
With 'Brush Social Club' Nolan has achieved something rather impressive. Opening on deep beats, it leads into electric piano and the looped, echoey vocal samples that give it so much flavour; lush orchestration encompassing minimal percussion and synths, completes the finished picture. 'Brush Social Club' is the aural equivalent of a spine-tingling massage.
