Track Of The Day :: Seawaves - With Or Without You

Words: LB

The Manchester dreampop duo - who we first featured two years ago - Seawaves, have stayed true to their name in turning out electronic tracks that seem to soar on large atmospheric seascape palettes of sound.

Aside from having had their work used on a Mercedes Benz TV ad campaign, and at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics highlights, the pair - Si Van Brussel and Daniel Benjamin - have now turned to this cover of 'With Or Without You'. Yes, that is the same U2 classic, 'With Or Without You', taken from their acclaimed fifth album 'The Joshua Tree', and the track that was to become their first Number One hit. And whatever your personal views on the Irish behemoths, this cover is worth a listen.

Taking on such a well-known song is no mean feat, but Seawaves to their credit manage to give the song legs again - some 28 years after it first appeared - and breathe new life into its five-and-a-half-minutes-plus; extending the original by some 38 seconds. There are some nice effects put in here, with the electronic elements revitalizing the rock anthem, and Van Brussel sounding far from a Bono-lite, instead adding his own distinctive vocal spin.
