New Sounds #18 2/12/15

DREAMERS - SHOOTING SHADOWS
Following their self-titled debut EP, and breakout single 'Wolves (You Got Me)', the Brooklyn grunge pop trio return with this brooding, yet instantly ear-engaging, jagged-edge guitar line new single. Debut album due out next spring on Fairfax Recordings. Star rating: ****/5

LOYAL - BLUE & THE GREEN
New London trio kicking up an early storm with this debut electronic pop single. With touches of house and R&B, lacy soul samples, soft synths, and smooth as melted chocolate vocals, you can see why it is having an impact. Star rating: ****/5

GIUNGLA - COLD
Guitar and drum machine single from Italian, Bologna-based Emanuela Drei, released on November 20. Better known as the bassist with Jonathan Clancy in His Clancyness, this solo project debuts digital beats, loops and pedal effects in a whirl of distortion and glitchy notes. Star rating: ***.5/5

FRAGILE TOM - NAKED BONE
Lead single from the second album (the long time coming follow-up to 2009's debut 'Kingdom of Mistrust') 'The Particular Go', digitally released last week, by German synth-pop/indietronica trio Steffen Huber, André Rauhofer and André Daners. Think Human League, with a 2015 spin. Star rating: ***.5/5

TINY GIANT - SEEING EVERYTHING AS THOUGH IT IS REAL
London duo Chloë Alper and Mat Collis combine to create something that sounds like some weird mash-up between a dreampop band and an experimental heavy rock outfit on this latest single released last week. Discordant sounds and changing chord structures work around softly layered textures and Alper's ethereal Kate Bush-like vocals. Different and distinct. Star rating: ****.5/5
