Words: Ellie Ward
Released at the end of November, 'Boyfriend' is the second single from the upcoming debut album 'Up To Anything' from Brisbane three-piece teens The Goon Sax.
To be released by Chapter Music in March 2016, the three - Louis Forster, son of the Go-Betweens' Robert Forster, James Harrison and Riley Jones - have just got around to producing a video for 'Boyfriend' - which Harrison reveals “was written in 10 minutes in Louis' bedroom in March 2014" - which they shared just before Christmas.
Named after a type of Australian boxed wine that comes in a plastic ‘goon’ bag, The Goon Sax make pop music that strikes just the right note with likeable pop ambience, witty and self-deprecating lyrics. “I need a boyfriend/Or just anything real,” sings Forster deadpan, with just a hint of Jarvis Cocker about him, over jangle-pop guitars on 'Boyfriend', which can't help but raise a smile when you watch the video.
