Tributes pour in from around the world as many woke this morning to the announcement of the death of David Bowie, at the age of 69.
The singer's agent confirmed this morning he had passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."
His son Duncan Jones has tweeted: "Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all."
Bowie married second wife, model Iman in a private ceremony in 1992.
The legendary star only released his latest album - his 25th -'Blackstar', on January 8, his 69th birthday.
Fans have been laying flowers this morning by a mural of the singer in Brixton, south London today. Situated on the wall of Morley's store on Brixton Road, it shows Bowie from the 1973 'Aladdin Sane' cover.
Bowie was born in Brixton and lived on nearby Stansfield Road, until moving to Beckenham, Kent at the age of six.
