There is something utterly lovely about this new track - and latest single release - from Sydney's jangly pop-gazers PLANET.
Follow-up to last December's debut single 'Disaster Caster', 'Northern Skyline' was recorded and engineered by the band in vocalist Matty Took's bedroom studio, before being mixed by Lachlan Mitchell (Attic Studios, Jungle Studios).
Although the five-piece take inspiration from a variety of sources and genres to create what they describe as “relaxed and chilled but infused with high-octane energy and an unmistakable attitude” music, 'Northern Skyline' is so achingly Australian that you couldn't imagine it originating anywhere else. A smooth, riff-laden four minutes of smooth guitar hooks with Matty Took's gravelled, sweeping vocal being just the bees' business: one of those voices that could sing the contents of the telephone directory and you'd still be moved.
PLANET are being hotly tipped by 'those that know', and with further releases set for the coming months, this is one planet your ears seriously need to orbit.
