Track Of The Day :: Plastic Mermaids - Alaska

Words: Linn Branson

Isle of Wight's Plastic Mermaids may well have produced their best track to date in 'Alaska'.

Taken from their forthcoming self-produced EP ‘Everything Is Yellow And Yellow Is My Least Favourite Colour’ - out on June 3 via Cross Keys Records - it follows ‘Painted Lady’, the first track to come from this third record.

Crossing dream- and chamber-pop boundaries, 'Alaska' harnesses all the same subtle warmth and textures across its four-and-a-half minute psych-pop duration; from its opening piano notes to Douglas Richards distinctive vocal delivery against off-kilter guitar and drum beats, it builds to something that is both stirring and memorable - and more than justifies the Mermaids growing reputation as a band to take notice of.
